Ah, the joys of owning a boat - the epitome of leisure and adventure! Yet, even with a brand-new vessel, there's always work to be done. From installing a step to reach the hatch to welding an arch for the solar panels, every task adds to the character and functionality of our sailing yacht!
2024: Arch and Davits
Project: Together with a engineering draftsman, we have designed an Arch and davits for our Black Bird. Let the details be left to us because we truly leave nothing to chance. We have even conducted a stress calculation of the entire structure. On the Arch, two solar panels of 500 WP each and a B&G Halo2+ radar will be mounted. The Davits will be detachable and must be able to lift our Zodiac. With the assistance of Ergun Buga and jeroen Oudshoord (van Genderen B.V.) we have acquired the correct materials and we are now in the process of bending and welding the frame
Material: Stainless steel 316 L Diameter: 25 mm Thickness: 2.5mm
2023: Servies
Project: Nothing is as annoying as when you open a cabinet and everything falls out. Unfortunately, a new Dehler doesn't have a good solution for that anymore by default. So, taking a cue from the van der Stadt models, we made two shelves ourselves where the plates, cups, and glasses fit. Fair is fair, it was quite a hassle, but now the tableware stays put!
2023: Insulation
Project: The Webasto not only heated the cabin and the bedrooms but also the back of cabinets and the space under the bed. Not really efficient! Insulated with Armaflex AF, with special thanks to Dennis and Joop van Wingerden who told me which material would be best to use for this. Armaflex is an easy-to-use material. It doesn't fluff and is available in various sizes. I used the round version of 65 and 110 mm which you had to connect yourself with Armaflex glue. I used quick fasteners to hold the insulation together a bit after gluing, but they came off afterwards. However, I taped the seam with insulation tape to prevent dust and dirt from sticking, but this is not really necessary!
2022: Winter Tent
Project: The winter season lasts long, too long. To properly protect the Black Bird during this period, Insails has made a winter tent. The tent covers the entire length of the boat and is supported by the boom and the genoa halyard. The fabric is reinforced at the height of the lifelines with a storm strap, and the stanchions are additionally supported on the ship. This ensures that any snowfall has no adverse effects. You can trust the Wessel team with this!
